The Future of Refinery Power Plants: Studies and Planning Services

The Future of the Leuna Refinery Power Plant, Germany

The “Zukunft Leuna” project involves extensive studies and planning services aimed at making the Leuna refinery power plant more flexible.

The scope of the project essentially consists of:

  • Retrofitting of two existing boiler systems for the use of both liquid and gaseous fuels (expansion of the fuel range to include natural gas) (Phase 1)
  • Increasing the flexibility of steam production by adapting existing systems and integrating new system components, such as steam accumulators, pressure-reducing stations, auxiliary condensers, injection coolers, and heat exchangers (Phase 2)

The services provided to date by Iqony Solutions (IQS) for the “Zukunft Leuna” project include:

  • Preliminary and Conceptual Design (pre-FEED)
  • Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), including procurement planning (Phase 1 only)
