Our six power plant sites in North Rhine-Westphalia and Saarland are more than just industrial sites. They form the foundation of our energy future. And we are actively shaping this transition.
Our sites are and will remain reliable energy hubs – firmly rooted in their regions and equipped with infrastructure that we are developing step by step. High-capacity grid connections, technical expertise and experienced specialists form the basis for this. We make deliberate use of these sites’ strengths: to implement projects that maintain security of supply and open up new prospects. In this way, we are driving the future of energy forward in a targeted manner.

Steady Green Energy Walsum
In Duisburg-Walsum, the Steag Iqony Group is constructing a high-performance battery storage facility with a capacity of 50 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 200 megawatt-hours (MWh). The four-hour battery storage facility increases the flexibility of the electricity system and makes an important contribution to the integration of renewable energies into the energy market. Construction of the battery storage facility has been underway since 2025, with commissioning planned for late summer 2026. With this project at the established power plant site in the Ruhr region, the Steag Iqony Group is specifically strengthening security of supply and further developing its power plant site.

Bergkamen Combined Cycle Power Plant
The Steag Iqony Group is planning a new gas-fired power plant at its Bergkamen site and is already well into the preparatory work. By starting the planning process early, the company is laying the groundwork to be able to act swiftly as soon as the political framework is in place. The highly efficient combined cycle power plant represents modern power plant technology, reduced CO₂ emissions and a reliable contribution to future security of supply.
