seNet® – the digital private mobile radio system

Secure and highly available mobile communication is essential not only for public authorities and organisations with security responsibilities (BOS) to carry out their duties. Mobile communication is also necessary in many private and local government sectors for efficient business operations or for managing crisis situations.

Whilst the Federal Ministry of the Interior is driving forward the nationwide digital radio network for public safety organisations, there is still no alternative to analogue private mobile radio in sight for the private sector. This is precisely where Steag’s seNet® comes in and bridges the gap.

seNet® is designed for professional users who rely on mobile voice and data communication that is largely secure against eavesdropping (thanks to digital encryption) and offers high reliability. This includes, for example, fleet management in local transport, personnel monitoring by security services, the chemical industry, fleet management for logistics providers, or emergency communications for energy suppliers (municipal utilities, etc.).

The benefits at a glance

Reliable and Secure Communication

Protection against eavesdropping through digital encryption and high reliability thanks to a redundant system architecture.

Flexible and versatile

Easy to integrate into existing customer systems (e.g., PBX systems) and universally applicable for voice and data communication, monitoring, and location tracking.

Fast and direct connections

Short call setup times, direct dialing, and caller ID ensure efficient communication.

Simple and cost-effective

Standardized interfaces make the service easy to use; fixed monthly rates keep internal network connections affordable, regardless of call volume.

The coverage area

seNet® is a high-availability digital private mobile radio network (based on the TETRA standard) operated by Steag GmbH, which provides mobile communication services for the sectors listed below. Since 2005, the network has been serviced, maintained and continuously expanded by the company’s own technicians.

With more than 48 digitally networked radio base stations, the TETRA network extends across the Ruhr region, covering < 80% of the area. This includes more than 7,500 subscribers from a wide range of sectors,
such as

  • petrochemicals, chemical companies
  • energy suppliers, metal companies
  • professional and factory fire brigades
  • Public safety authorities
  • Public sector organisations and many more

Technology for the most demanding requirements

The seNet® digital radio network is based on the international TETRA standard.
TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) was developed in 1995 by the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) as an open standard and has since become established worldwide. Because it meets the highest security requirements, this standard is used in numerous countries by public safety organisations (PSOs) such as the police, fire services and emergency services. In Germany, the nationwide PSO digital radio network is currently under construction and, thanks to its outstanding performance features, is being adopted by an increasing number of local authorities and industrial companies.

The result is a high-performance digital radio network specifically tailored to the requirements of critical infrastructure and professional users.
seNet® uses this proven technology as the basis for secure, highly available enterprise communications.
