1,750 euros for a good cause
Year in, year out: STEAG trainees donate to a good cause
Essen. STEAG trainees present donation to Jugendwerk Essen. Energy company trainees raise funds for children from disadvantaged families through the sale of Advent calendars.
By selling Advent calendars to their colleagues, trainees at the energy company STEAG raised 1,750 euros in the run-up to Christmas, and have now handed over the donation to Jugendwerk Essen, the district youth organization of the Workers’ Welfare Association (AWO).
“We are delighted to receive this financial support for our summer vacation program, which will hopefully be able to take place again as usual next year. Our organization relies on donations to enable it to provide an attractive vacation program for children from disadvantaged families. We are extremely grateful to STEAG for their contribution,” says Anna Pfeiffer, Managing Director of Jugendwerk Essen. Every year, the youth organization offers vacation programs and trips for children and young people between the ages of seven and seventeen. Families on low incomes contribute just a small amount themselves towards their children's participation in the vacation activities.
STEAG is proud of its trainees’ dedication
STEAG Industrial Relations Director Dr. Andreas Reichel joined the STEAG trainees in presenting the donation and praised their commitment: “It is fantastic to see that our trainees have once again pulled out all the stops to raise money for a good cause. I am proud of their dedication. This is living proof that we at STEAG take our social responsibility very seriously.”
Raising donations has become a yearly tradition for the STEAG trainees, who normally participate by displaying their baking talents. “Given the coronavirus, we had a rethink this year and came up with the idea of the Advent calendar,” explains Freya Wennier, Chair of the local youth and trainee representative body in Essen, who organized the fundraising campaign with her colleague Joel Knörig, a work-and-study student at STEAG and Jugendwerk Essen volunteer.
About the AWO Essen district youth organization
Jugendwerk Essen involves itself in many ways in supporting children, adolescents and young adults, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In the context of its various fields of activity, it not only carries out specific, educationally guided children's and youth work but also represents the social interests of these groups and provides direct, ad hoc social work.
Donations in support of Jugendwerk Essen’s work are always gratefully received.
