Steag Iqony Group

The Steag Iqony Group combines the best of all energy worlds.

The Steag name stands for tradition, expertise and know-how in the energy industry – since 1937. With our plants, we ensure security of supply and, in doing so, we not only develop ourselves, but also the energy industry as a whole. As Iqony, we implement projects related to hydrogen, battery storage, new, hydrogen-capable power plants, heating networks and decarbonization solutions for industry and municipal partners. Around 5,500 employees worldwide are dedicated to these goals. Together, we are enabling the energy transition in Germany and Europe.

Iqony GmbH is our new, independently operating company. Here, the areas of photovoltaics and wind energy, hydrogen activities, energy solutions for decarbonizing industry and municipalities, climate-friendly district heating supply, energy storage for electricity and heat, and activities in the area of digitalization are bundled.

As a result, Iqony can now offer the joint services in an even more targeted manner, which will additionally promote the positive development of these business areas in the coming years. With 85 years of experience in the planning, construction and operation of energy technology plants, the company offers holistic solutions for the decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization of the energy supply. Iqony focuses on renewable energies and bridging technologies that can also be used in a climate-neutral manner in the future. In addition to solar, wind and geothermal energy, the portfolio also includes hydrogen solutions, storage technologies, engineering services and gas-fired power plants. The company implements projects worldwide for major industrial companies, utilities, cities and municipalities. Specializing in tailor-made solutions for demanding challenges, Iqony leverages its broad energy industry knowledge across all technologies and services offered.

STEAG Power GmbH bundles the power plant business and thus makes a major contribution to security of supply in Germany. Our share of total electricity generation in Germany is around five percent. We are sticking to our strategy of phasing out hard coal-fired power generation in the long term.

For over 85 years, Steag has stood for efficient and safe power generation. STEAG Power GmbH operates hard-coal-fired power plants at six locations in Germany. Their share of total electricity generation in Germany is around five percent. With its hard coal-fired power plants, it also makes an important contribution to the success of the energy transition. For the foreseeable future, controllable energies will still be needed to ensure that Germany, as an industrial nation, succeeds in its transformation to a largely emission-free, but at least in the coming years still volatile, energy generation. Steag Power also operates large power plants in Turkey and Colombia. Steag is sticking to its strategy of phasing out hard coal-fired power generation in the long term.
